Blast Protection
Human safety is at the forefront of our bin designs.
Concourses are vulnerable public areas and need the utmost protection
and security against fire and explosions. We have always understood
the need to afford the utmost protection for the public and employees.
That's why we build peace-of-mind into every bin.
Fire hazard and smoke emissions
Trying to prevent fires requires the opposing rules of controlling
an explosion, so the balance in design is very difficult. Our Butt Gum
Bins have counter balance flaps for the disposal of cigarette butts
and chewing gum. These hide the micro litter from sight and prevent
smoke from pluming from the disposal area. Quite often this is enough
to suspect a fire, which has to be acted upon.
The counter flaps marginalise the amount of oxygen available to the
cigarette and assist in extinguishing it promptly. The limited access holes only allow
cigarette butts and chewing gum through - any larger opening would inevitably attract
the disposal of paper litter, significantly increasing the potential for fire.
Blast proofing to afford the utmost safety to public and staff
The Butt Gum Bins are very robust. They are manufactured from1.2mm
stainless steel with added folds for rigidity. The bins have been designed
to direct and dissipate the energy away from the public and staff. We
are steeped in the vital knowledge borne from explosion testing switchgear,
which holds the same objective of protecting personnel from an explosion.
For instance, with the Wall Bins the energy is directed to the rear
of the unit which is stepped off the wall. The design creates a path
to take the energy through the bottom of the unit from harms way. The
energy has to be released from the unit in a controlled and predetermined
direction, whilst maintaining the structure sufficiently to protect
public and
staff.
Security and added design features
